Abyssinian

Abyssinians are one of the oldest known cat breeds.   It is believed that they are derived from an Egyptian kitten named Zula who was brought to
England by a soldier and bred with an English tabby.  It is believed that all Abyssinians are descendants of Zula.  The Abyssinian has become one of the most popular shorthair breed of cats in the USA.

There physical appearance still retains much of the lithe gracefulness of felis lybica, the African wildcat ancestor of all domestic cats.  They are a medium sized cat with a wedge shaped head and almond shaped eyes ranging in color from gold and copper to green and hazel.  Their coat is short and fine lying close to the skin.  The characteristic ‘ticked’ coat comes in ruddy, red, blue, and fawn with dark lining in the face around the eyes and nose.

Abyssinians are intelligent cats that enjoy a very active lifestyle of playing and selfexploring.  They require a lot of human interaction and are often very interested in their human counterparts’ daily activities.  This active lifestyle keeps them from being your typical ‘lap cat’.
